7 Fatal LinkedIn Profile Mistakes Driving Your Ideal Clients Into The Arms Of Your Rivals (And How To Fix Them)
LinkedIn's search facility is a literal goldmine, and your profile is just waiting to be delivered into the eyes of your ideal clients.
But ONLY if LinkedIn's algorithms think you're worth it. If not, somebody else pops up instead of you…
Your LinkedIn profile is a huge part of changing that.
Not only that, but once their eyes are on your profile, you won't get a second chance to make a first impression…
Unfortunately, most LinkedIn profiles don't make the cut. These 7 mistakes are to blame:
- ❌ A formal CV-style profile that reads flat, misses your voice, and lacks personality.
- ❌ A vanilla headline getting next to no clicks.
- ❌ A summary with a few lines, a block of text, or even nothing at all.
- ❌ No relevant multimedia adding intrigue and credibility.
- ❌ Experience sections without facts every reader should know.
- ❌ No samples and testimonials positioned just right.
- ❌ Calls-to-action your audience doesn't relate to.
But the good news is, all of these can be turned around in a matter of days.
You CAN appear before your ideal clients.
You CAN impress those ideal clients.
And you CAN get them to contact you.
All you need is a fully-fledged custom-crafted LinkedIn profile with all the key sections written exactly as they should be. That means:
- ✅ A profile that speaks in your unique tone of voice and positions you for success in your niche.
- ✅ A captivating headline that makes people eager to click.
- ✅ A summary that speaks to your target audience and makes you stand out among the crowd.
- ✅ A vibrant featured section that captures attention and fuels intrigue.
- ✅ An accurate and positive overview of your current and past experiences highlighting your biggest wins.
- ✅ The exact samples and testimonials your ideal clients need to see, right where they expect to see them.
- ✅ Calls-to-action that move your audience to connect, engage, and message you.
In March 2020, I took the biggest step forward in my entire life by starting a business from my mother's front room at the age of 22.
I had a useless university degree, next to no money, no connections, and had just been put on COVID leave from a part-time job stacking shelves at a local convenience store.
All I had was a bunch of slick YouTube videos telling me I could make money online. Some were obvious scams, some seemed too good to be true, but a select few opened my eyes to a world I'd never been told about. So I took the plunge.
Got my first content-writing client in a week. Equalled my part-time salary in a month. Handed in my notice 4 days before I was due back when the UK's lockdowns were lifted.
Fast forward a year, and I was a seasoned content writer getting trained up in direct-response copywriting and then LinkedIn. Combined all three and became a dedicated LinkedIn profile writer.
Clients I've written LinkedIn profiles for include:
- ⏩ Part-time millionaire, CEO, and Amazon best-selling author Peter Tzemis.
- ⏩ 7-figure copywriter, marketing consultant, and mentor Chris Wright.
- ⏩ Former Bahamas resident and serial entrepreneur Mark Lyford.
I've also taught a 1-hour LinkedIn masterclass to a private coaching group run by marketing legends John Caprani and Islam Benfifi.
But I'll stop there and let my clients speak for themselves. Below is a list of testimonials from just some of the clients I've written for and consulted with, followed by a selection of my client base beyond LinkedIn, ranging from small companies up to a global corporation.
Reece Haynes came to our coaching group today and knocked our socks off. He did a life changing presentation on how to use Linkedin to generate leads as a freelancer. I've been in this marketing thing since 2015 and seen a jillion of Linkedin coaches, courses, and books. What Reece taught in the presentation belongs to the top 5% in terms of quality. I even feel a little guilty for having that knowledge private kept in our group, lol. If you want to be on the top of your Linkedin game, drop the man a message.

Words Into Wealth
Reece sent me a DM promoting another service. As a fellow practitioner when it comes to social selling, I recognised a master at work. He kindly agreed to come on board with Words into Wealth and I couldn’t be happier with him. He’s dedicated, gets my clients appointments (resulting in client income) and always goes the extra mile. Top man. Would recommend to any business.
Special shoutout to Reece Haynes who recently overhauled my LinkedIn. I don't know about you, but I've had a love/hate relationship with LinkedIn. LOVE because it helped me connect to financial publishers in my early days of copywriting. HATE because it just feels so stale. Either way, ignoring my profile for 5+ years was probably a mistake. Especially when I recently (somehow) received a major client through it. When this happened, I knew I needed to update my profile... and make it sing...So I turned to Reece -- and he did a great job. If you need a new LinkedIn profile written up, talk to Reece.
I was refered to Reece Haynes by someone I know when I told them I wanted to get serious about my LinkedIn profile. After having an initial call with Reece I was impressed and decided to hire him to help me. Reece took the time to speak to me on Zoom for over an hour getting the details he needed to re write my profile and help me get things in order. After that call he followed up with me on various pieces of information needed and did exactly what he said he would do. My new Linked In profile went live a few days ago and Im super happy with the job Reece has done for me. I'm already seeing more profile viewed within just a few days! I would highly recommend Reece to you if you need your LinkedIn profile game upping.
I have know Reece just over a year and we recently had him write copy for a landing page for a new course. Reece is very precise in his advice and easily answers the rationale behind what he has written. He is professional and when he gives you a timescale he meets it. We are happy with the work he has produced and have just commissioned him to write further copy for us. I would have no hesitation in recommending Reece to anyone.

Reece's writing was excellent value for money, I liked what he wrote, and he was exceedingly pleasant to work with. The end result came fast, fast, fast! Reece went directly to the heart and source of who I am and what I'm about and brought it out in writing. What more can you ask for?
I’ve been sending Reece regular work for the past four months. He consistently delivers high-quality, original, and powerful content and copy for my clients. He always sends the work back to me on-time, and I’ve never had any problems. My clients often tell me how well-written his work is. If you want someone to help your business persuade more people and make more sales, Reece is the man to hire!

Reece and I connected via Linked In. He is extremely professional and knowledgeable but also very approachable and helpful. I am very please with the work he has done for me and would strongly recommend you have a chat with him.
How I Do It
Here's my simple 4-step process:
We'll schedule a 1-hour Zoom interview to cover areas including your background, ambitions, experiences, what to focus on in the profile, and what you want your LinkedIn profile to accomplish.
I'll review any further resources you provide and do any extra research required, then come back to you if I have any questions.
I'll put together the new profile in a Google Doc and then send it to you for approval/edits within 10 business days.
Once approved, I'll log into your LinkedIn and make all the changes, ensuring everything looks just right. And that's it!
